Norfolk Tourism Industry Finds Itself a

Norfolk residents have been thrilled to hear of a new project that may well reverse the region's flagging tourism fortunes.

Plans are underway in the Hemsby and Newport area to convert the site of a former Pontins holiday park. The site closed last January after its owners reviewed the site and found bookings were declining. The plans are for an Eden Project-style tourism spot, featuring a pair of carbon-neutral sub-tropical domes.

It all sounds ambitious, but the brains behind it are convinced that it could be a hit and could restore some much-needed (and eco-friendly) glamour to the Norfolk tourist scene. The two domes, similar in construction to those found at the famous Eden Project in Cornwall, would be entirely energy efficient, with wind farms outside the site used to provide energy, whilst the domes themselves would be built from sustainable materials.

One of the domes would feature a wealth of recreational activities, whilst the other would offer camping facilities. Meanwhile, for those who do not fancy camping, lodges would be constructed outside the domes to house those who would prefer a proper bed in which to sleep. Remember that whenever you are looking to take part in recreational activities, it is vital to ensure that you are covered by your single or multi trip travel insurance for each activity.

The venue would cost somewhere in the region of £10 million to build and planners hope that it could open sometime in the year 2012, if at all possible. Of course, if you just cannot wait to experience this kind of tourist attraction, you could sort out some cheap travel insurance, organise somewhere to stay by the sea and head over to Cornwall for a weekend, where the original Eden Project can be found. The Project, which houses plant species collected from all around the globe, also features the world's largest greenhouse.
