British Airways Strike

Proposed British Airlines Strikes March 2010

Note: This information applies only to polices with the prefix "WH" - Published 16/03/2010 12:34

Unite, the trade union that represents the majority of British Airways (BA) cabin crew, has announced its intention to take strike action on the following dates:

   20th, 21st and 22nd March 2010
   27th, 28th, 29th and 30th March 2010

At the time of writing this report all BA flights are operating as normal. If a strike does go ahead, BA are intending to operate a range of flights and not all flights will be cancelled. BA are currently finalising their flight schedules for the strike period and have temporarily stopped selling seats on all flights operating on the strike dates. They will finalise these schedules in the next few days and further information will be posted on their website as soon as it is available.

All flights operated by BA franchise, codeshare and alliance partners will operate normally, and are subject to general conditions of carriage.

If you are an OINC customer you should be advised to await an update for your flight from BA, review the link below or contact BA or your tour operator. Please advise that not all flights are affected and for those that are you should have refund or rescheduling options.

Up to date flight information is available by calling BA Customer Relations / Special Assistance on 00 44 (0) 844 493 0 787 or using this link OINC.COM - British Airways Strike

Cover will be considered under the applicable policy sections where the flight/holiday was booked and the insurance was effected prior to the strike action being announced on 12th March 2010.

Cancellation/Curtailment
There is no cover if you wish to cancel your trip because of a disinclination to travel due to the strike or industrial action.

Travel Delay / Travel Abandonment
No cover exists if the your flight is cancelled before the booked departure time. You  therefore, need to experience the applicable length of delay as specified in the policy wording to be eligible for the set compensation or to abandon your booked trip.

Missed departure
Cover is not applicable if the flight is cancelled and you are booked onto an alternative flight.

Baggage & Baggage delay
Cover will be provided for any baggage lost or misplaced during transit throughout the course of a strike subject to the terms of your policy wording.

Scheduled Airline Failure
No cover is applicable as the normal terms and condition apply.

Extension of Cover
If you are booked to return home and your flight is affected by this strike then an automatic extension of insurance cover will be applied to your policy, free of charge, for the period stated within their policy, normally up to 72 hours. For example, if you were due to return on a flight to the UK but could not as your trip was delayed as a result of this strike, and then fell ill during the period of extension then this claim should be considered as normal under the Emergency Medical Expenses section of cover.
