The Atlantic City Convention and Visitors Authority hosted a non-denominational event on February 14th for star-struck lovers to come along to get married for free at the Adrian Phillips Ballroom in Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City.
The group ceremony also opened its doors to civil unions and to those romantic couples wishing to renew their vows, with a cameraman and a video recorder on hand to capture those magical Valentine's moments forever.
Of course, if you were outside the state of New Jersey, or indeed, outside the US, you would still have had to cross the border or the ocean to the United States, with all the associated costs including sorting out single trip travel insurance, flights and so on. But hey - at least the ceremony was free, right? The only requirements were that couples, whether from the state itself or from outside, ensured that a valid New Jersey marriage or civil union licence was in place at least three days prior to the event.
For those who missed the ceremony, or thought that perhaps New Jersey was a long way to travel just for a marriage ceremony, Atlantic City itself still offers a fair few attractions of its own to make a trip worthwhile.
If you feel like slipping into Atlantic City's past, you can have a wander around the Historical Museum or Tuckerton Seaport Museum or alternatively climb to the top of the Absecon Lighthouse. For those who have done enough sightseeing, there are plenty of beaches. As always when exploring a city, remember to be vigilant to avoid losing your valuables and thus having to make a claim on your travel insurance.
